About Archives Month 2025: Archives Outside

Utah is home to landscapes of natural beauty, from snow-flocked mountains to vast scarlet deserts. Perhaps your organization has a collection of records featuring Utah’s natural resources, parks, ranches, forests, and more that you can show off to your audiences and take them out of the records room and into the great outdoors!

However, “outside” can also be interpreted through the lens of metaphor as we think about the concept of people, cultures, and practices considered “outside” of that which is typical,  customary, or normative. Your collection may contain stories of people who impacted their world by thinking outside of the usual conventions.

We need your help

To make this a truly statewide initiative, we want to include as many organizations as possible. Do you have a collection of photographs of people in you community enjoying the local park? Have you worked on improvement projects in your community? Does your institution have records documenting life outside of the norm? There is a place for you in Archives Month! You can repurpose content from a past exhibit, reshare past blog articles or podcasts, and highlight your collections on social media. If you’re hosting speakers or other events, let us know. We would also love to feature your content on this Archives Month website. Reach out! If it’s related to “outside”, and it’s in October, it’s Archives Month content and we want to help in whatever way we can. Please use the button below to send us photos, social media posts, blogs, or digital exhibits that you made for Archives Month.
