Archives Month 2023: Food for Thought
October is Archives Month!
Archives Month is a celebration of records of enduring value. Join Utah’s libraries, museums, special collections, and archival institutions as we highlight history and raise public awareness of the role that archives play in our daily lives.
2023 Theme:
Food For Thought
This year, spice up your life by exploring food in the records. Getting started is a piece of cake: the impact of food production can be seen on records like maps, oral histories, photos, and more. Archival records can provide a unique glimpse into the history of our human relationship with food over time, from local government agricultural projects to PTA community cookbooks, the menus from important social events and food handling and hygiene regulations, to your grandmother’s recipe box. This is your history, go nuts!
We need your help
To make this a truly statewide initiative, we want to include as many organizations as possible. Do you have a collection of family recipes? Have you worked on food-related projects in your community? Does your institution have records documenting food history, agriculture, westward expansion, indigenous history, or recreation? There is a place for you in Archives Month! You can repurpose content from a past exhibit, reshare past blog articles or podcasts, and highlight your collections on social media. If you’re hosting speakers or other events, let us know. We would also love to feature your content on this Archives Month website. Reach out! If it’s related to food, and it’s in October, it’s Archives Month content and we want to help in whatever way we can. Please get in touch!
