Archives Month 2024: The Future in the Archives

For 2024, the Board chose the theme “The Future in the Archives.” This can take on different meanings depending on how it is interpreted. Maybe your organization is starting a new digitization initiative that will make records accessible for generations to come. Or perhaps you have historical records, like schematics or blueprints, for a project that envisioned a grand design for the future. Whether it’s a future that came to be, or a future that was aspired for but never realized, we want you to share these futures with us in October.

This year, USHRAB will be holding an in-person Archives Fundamentals workshop on October 22 to help you protect your organization’s future by showing you the basics of how to organize, describe, and care for your historic records. This training will help you make your historical records accessible to generations to come! To learn more and register, click the button below.

To make this a truly statewide initiative, we want to include as many organizations as possible. Do you have a collection of blueprints? Have you worked on improvement projects in your community? Does your institution have records documenting infrastructure expansion, building designs, or other projects that envisioned what the future could be? There is a place for you in Archives Month! You can repurpose content from a past exhibit, reshare past blog articles or podcasts, and highlight your collections on social media. If you’re hosting speakers or other events, let us know. We would also love to feature your content on this Archives Month website. Reach out! If it’s related to “the future”, and it’s in October, it’s Archives Month content and we want to help in whatever way we can. Please use the button below to send us photos, social media posts, blogs, or digital exhibits that you made for Archives Month.
